Behind the Lens
In 1971 at the age of 10, the song 'Ramble On' by Led Zeppelin changed everything, from that moment on it was all rock-n-roll for me! "Disco sucks!, Bay City rollers, yeah right, the Bee Gees, no way, I was hooked!". Four years later my first concert was Black Sabbath, Heart and Boston here in Denver and never missed a Black Sabbath show 4 yrs running until their demise. AC/DC was my all-time favorite, "For the record Bon Scott was the ultimate front man."
In 1980 I borrowed my friends Pentax camera for Van Halen I was 17, those pictures are part of this exhibit. In 1982 at 19, AC/DC's 'For Those About to Rock Tour' announced a Denver date. I decided to line up a staggering 5 days early with my sleeping bag, which landed an interview with a radio station and The Rocky Mountain newspaper published a photo of the ticket line captioned with my name as being first in line. That concert is part of this exhibit as well.
Being a self-taught photographer, focusing on a moving subject proved to be the most difficult, not to mention mastering the aperture and shutter speed settings on the fly. While the official press pit photographers were removed after a few songs, I was able to shoot entire shows. This is what makes this exhibit truly unique. My camera choice became the Nikon FM2 with Nikkor fixed 180mm and 55mm lens.
These invaluable photos of rock history deserve to be shared and celebrated.
